Three-Way Calling with a Brooktrout ATI Card
Brooktrout ATI cards can provide three way calling without the use of a PBX or the phone company's three-way calling services. However, there are many unique aspects of this configuration that must be understood.
If you plan to implement conference calling with a Brooktrout ATI / voice processing card combination, we strongly urge you to purchase the hardware from CT Distributing (www.ctdistributing.com): they will be able to help you configure your hardware so it works properly.
Unique Aspects of a Brooktrout ATI Three-Way Calling Configuration
- You must have at least as many free lines as you have Active Call Center answered lines. The ATI card implements three-way calls by dialing the third party on a line that is not being answered by Active Call Center. If a second line is not free, the three-way call will fail.
- The ATI card "connects" the three-way call internally. Externally the call uses two lines: one line for the original call and one line for the call to the third party.
- Active Call Center can only "listen" after the three-way call is connected, the other parties will not be able to hear Active Call Center.
- When using a Brooktrout ATI configuration, the "ATI to connect parties over CT bus" option must be checked in the Brooktrout TAPI Express Advanced Options to enable three-way calling.
