Installing Brooktrout Telephony Cards

These instructions are some general steps to installing Brooktrout (or Rhetorex) Telephony Cards. They are not intended to replace Brooktrout documentation, but more as a "quick start" guide.

Step 1. We do not suggest installing Brooktrout or Rhetorex cards under Windows 98, ME, or XP. Use Windows NT (any SP) or Win 2000 (SP1 or SP2, or possibly SP4) instead. Brooktrout drivers will not work Windows XP or Windows 2000 SP3 - on these operating systems we recommend using Dialogic hardware instead.

Step 2. Install your telephony card in the system and reboot the machine. If installing Vantage PCI cards, be sure to install the cards in 5 volt PCI slots: newer systems often have a predominance of 3.3 volt PCI slots.

Step 3. Brooktrout drivers may be downloaded from the activecallcenter.com website at: http://www.activecallcenter.com/TAPIExpress.zip .

Step 4. Install the drivers. The password for the ZIP file is 'tpnt' (without apostrophes). Install the "NT patch sp..." file second, if there is one.

Step 5. Reboot after the installation has completed. Windows 2000 users that encounter a "New Hardware Found" message should follow the fix in Brooktrout TAPI Drivers Windows 2000 Workaround.

Step 6. Go to Start ... Programs ... TAPI Express ... Configuration Wizard. As you go through the wizard, you will come to screen title "Brooktrout Technology Configuration Wizard - Board Information". Click Add and select your board type. Continue through the configuration wizard to the end and select the option to automatically load the drivers when finished before closing the wizard.

Step 7. Brooktrout TAPI Express and other voice board documentation is available from Brooktrout by e-mailing techsupport@brooktrout.com. Ask for "TAPI Express Documentation" and "Voice Utilities User Guide."

Step 8. Lots of troubleshooting tips are available in the Troubleshooting: Brooktrout Hardware section.

Step 9. If all else fails, contact the vendor that sold you the board for technical support. Be sure to mention that this is a TAPI Express installation.
