Creating New Voices

The Lucent text-to-speech (TTS) control panel applet allows for the creation of new speakers and modification of existing speakers. Use these features to create customized voices to suit any application.

To create a new speaker:

From the Windows taskbar, choose Start ... Settings ... Control Panel.

In the Control Panel, open Lucent TTS Configuration.

A dialog will appear that shows Lucent TTS Properties. Note: this window does not show in the Windows taskbar and is easy to "lose" behind other windows. If the Lucent TTS Properties window cannot be located, minimize all other open windows to find it.

Click Add Mode on the Lucent TTS Properties dialog.

Enter a brief mode name (less than 8 characters, no spaces).

Warning: entering names that are too long may result in errors later. Stick with short, simple names.

Select a language, if other languages are installed.

For most voice modems and telephony cards (including Brooktrout), check the Phone Quality box. Do not check this box for most Dialogic hardware.

If e-mail preprocessing is desired, check the E-Mail Preprocessing box.

Click OK to create the speaker.

Continue to the section on Modifying Voices to customize the voice further.

Improper settings or speaker properties in the new speaker may result in crashes in Active Call Center. If Active Call Center crashes or otherwise behaves inexplicably after creating a new speaker, delete the speaker and try again.
